Karwa Chauth and Festive Makeup at Home: Looks, Mehndi Timing and Booking Tips

Easy Karwa Chauth looks, when to put mehndi, how to make makeup last while fasting and why festive slots should be booked early.

Smiling Indian woman in a red saree with sindoor, gold jewellery and festive makeup

Karwa Chauth is one of the busiest beauty days of the year in Chandigarh. You fast from sunrise, dress up in red or your wedding lehenga, sit for the evening puja and wait for the moon. The last thing you want is to rush to a crowded parlour on an empty stomach. That is why Karwa Chauth makeup at home makes so much sense.

This guide covers easy festive looks, when to put mehndi and how to plan your booking. Most of these tips work for Teej, Diwali and Lohri too.

Mehndi timing: when to apply

Mehndi colour keeps getting darker for a day or so after you remove the paste. So the best time is the evening or night before Karwa Chauth. By the next evening, the colour is at its deepest, just in time for the puja.

  • Do manicure, pedicure and waxing before mehndi, not after.
  • Keep the paste on as long as you can. Overnight is ideal.
  • Scrape it off instead of washing, and keep water away for a few hours.
  • Book your mehndi early. The evening before Karwa Chauth is a peak slot.

Our mehndi artists come to your home for Arabic mehndi on both hands or full hands mehndi (front and back up to the wrist).

Karwa Chauth makeup looks that work

1. Classic red, bridal-inspired

Red lips, defined eyes with kajal and liner, soft gold on the lids and a neat bindi. Perfect with your wedding lehenga or a red saree, and a favourite for women celebrating their first Karwa Chauth.

2. Soft glam

A glowing base, rose-gold or bronze eyes and nude-pink or berry lips. Elegant, photo-ready and not too heavy for a long evening.

3. Minimal festive glow

A light base, mascara, a touch of highlighter and a bright lip. Ideal if you want to look fresh but not "made up", or have a family dinner after the puja.

4. Traditional Punjabi suit look

Matte skin, bold kajal, a strong lip and a neat braid with a parandi. Simple, classic and lovely with a phulkari dupatta.

Make your makeup last while fasting

  • You may not drink water all day, so skin can feel dry. Moisturise well after sargi.
  • Choose HD or long-wear products for a look that lasts from afternoon to moonrise.
  • Finish with setting spray, and keep a lipstick and compact in your bag.
  • Avoid very heavy layers. They can look tired by late evening.

Our party makeup at home comes in classic, HD and airbrush finishes. Add a party hairstyle or saree draping to complete the look.

Easy festive hairstyle ideas

  • Soft curls: Open hair with loose curls looks lovely with a saree and stays fresh in the evening.
  • Low bun with gajra: Neat, traditional and perfect if you will cover your head with a dupatta for the puja.
  • Side braid or parandi: Ideal with a Punjabi suit and easy to manage all evening.

Tell your artist if you will cover your head during the puja. She will keep the hairstyle flat on top so the dupatta sits well.

Why you should book early

On Karwa Chauth and around Diwali, almost every woman wants her makeup done in the same few hours, usually mid-afternoon. Good slots fill up days in advance. Booking early means:

  • You get the time slot you want, not whatever is left.
  • Your artist can plan your look in advance from your outfit photo.
  • Your mother-in-law, sisters or friends can get ready together at home.

Tip: check the puja time with your family, then book your makeup to finish at least an hour before it.

Your first Karwa Chauth after marriage

For newly married women, the first Karwa Chauth is special. Many wear their wedding lehenga or a heavy red saree, along with chooda, bridal jewellery and full mehndi. If that is your plan:

  • Choose a softer version of your bridal look, so it feels festive but not like a second wedding.
  • Book full hands mehndi or a light bridal design for your hands.
  • Get the dupatta or saree draped properly. Heavy outfits sit much better when they are set well, so add saree draping to your booking.
  • Keep sargi light and moisturise well. A rested face takes makeup better.

What to keep ready at home

Home makeup is easy, but a little preparation saves time on the day:

  • A chair and a table near a window or good light
  • A plug point nearby
  • Your outfit ironed, with safety pins, bindi and bangles laid out
  • Your jewellery and any hair accessories in one place
  • A clean, moisturised face with no makeup

We bring the rest: products, brushes, disposables and fresh towels.

Other festivals: Teej, Diwali and Lohri

  • Teej: Green and bright colours, fresh mehndi and lighter makeup that suits monsoon humidity.
  • Diwali: Glam eyes, metallic touches and a hairstyle that stays put through pooja, diyas and late nights.
  • Lohri: Warm, winter-friendly makeup with extra moisture for dry skin, and comfortable hair for dancing around the bonfire.

Quick questions

When should I apply mehndi for Karwa Chauth?

The evening or night before is best. Mehndi colour deepens over the next day, so it looks darkest by the evening puja.

What time should I book my Karwa Chauth makeup?

Plan for your makeup to finish at least an hour before the puja. Afternoon slots are the most popular, so book a few days in advance.

Can you do makeup for the whole family at home?

Yes. Just tell us how many people need to get ready and we will plan the team and timing. We share the exact price for the group before booking, and current rates are on our price list.

Will my makeup last until moonrise?

With good skin prep, HD or long-wear products and setting spray, it should last well through the evening. Keep a lipstick and compact handy for touch-ups after the puja.
