Saree draping styles we do

The most common style is the classic Nivi drape with front pleats and a pallu over the left shoulder. You can wear the pallu pleated and pinned for a neat look, or open and flowing for a softer feel. For weddings, a pinned pleated pallu is easier to manage through long functions.

We also do the seedha pallu (Gujarati style), where the pallu comes to the front, the Bengali style with box pleats, and modern styles like the mermaid drape, a lehenga-style saree or a belted saree. Pre-stitched sarees can also be set and pinned properly.

Heavy silk sarees need firm pleats and more pins. Light georgette, chiffon and net sarees slip more, so the draper uses hidden pins to keep the pleats from opening. Tell us the fabric when you book.

Lehenga dupatta and chunni setting

A lehenga looks complete only when the dupatta sits right. Our draper can set it on the head for a traditional bridal look, on one shoulder with pleats, across both arms or as a cape. For Punjabi functions like the sagan or chunni ceremony, the chunni is set on the head and pinned so it does not slide.

Brides often wear two dupattas on the wedding day: one on the head and one draped on the body. The setting needs care so it does not pull on the hairstyle or the jewellery. Draping is already included in our bridal makeup packages.

Lehenga and dupatta setting can be booked on its own too. If you want your hair done as well, add a party hairstyle in the same slot or explore our hairstyling options.

What to keep ready before the draper arrives

Iron or steam the saree the day before. Wear a well-fitted petticoat in a matching colour and tie it firmly at the waist, because a loose petticoat makes the whole drape sag. Put on your blouse and the footwear you will wear, since the saree length is set according to your heel height.

Finish your makeup and hairstyle before draping. Keep jewellery like necklaces ready, but wear long earrings and bangles after the drape. If several people need draping, line them up in order of who needs to leave first.

Keep a full-length mirror nearby if you can. It helps you see the pleats and fall from the front and the side. Once draped, avoid sitting on the pallu and lift the pleats a little while climbing stairs.

Saree Draping — FAQs

What are the charges for saree draping at home in Chandigarh?

It depends on what you need, a saree drape or a lehenga and dupatta setting, and on how many people need draping. You can add a party hairstyle in the same booking. Our prices are starting prices, we share the exact quote before you book and you pay after the service. See our price list.

How long does saree draping take?

A regular drape takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Heavy silk sarees, special styles or a lehenga with two dupattas can take up to 40 minutes.

Do you bring safety pins?

Yes. Our draper brings safety pins and U-pins. You only need your saree, blouse, petticoat and footwear ready.

Will the saree stay in place while dancing?

With firm pleats and hidden pinning at the waist and shoulder, the saree stays secure through normal dancing and moving around. Light fabrics need a little more care, and we pin them accordingly.

Can you drape sarees for my whole family?

Yes. Tell us how many people need draping and when you have to leave. Each drape takes about 20 to 30 minutes, so we plan time or send an extra person if needed.

Can you drape a saree in a modern style?

Yes. Along with classic styles, we do modern drapes like the mermaid style, the lehenga-style saree and the belted saree. Share a photo of the look you want when you book.
